Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule an appointment?

All you need to do is to email thrivepsychotherapyinfo@gmail.com or complete the form in the Contact section.

Do you offer a free consultation session?

Yes! I believe a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship is key to successful outcomes. It's a matter of finding a therapist that's the best fit for you and your needs. I offer free 15 minute consultation sessions over Zoom or on the phone so that you have an opportunity to meet me, ask questions and have a better understanding of my approach.

How long will the process take?

There is no one-size-fits all approach to answering this question. It really depends on your situation, condition, the severity of the issue(s), your goals that we will develop together and the commitment you make to achieving these goals. I offer on-going, long or short-term sessions based on your needs.

During your first session we will discuss if you would like to keep sessions open-ended or decide on fixed number of sessions. Typically sessions are 6-8 sessions and then we review whether to continue further.

What is the difference between psychotherapy and counselling?

Some might consider psychotherapy and counselling and even life coaching to be interchangeable therapies. However, there are a number of notable differences.

Psychotherapists:

  • Qualified and trained to help people with psychological problems that have built up over the course of a long period of time.

  • It will help you understand your feelings, thoughts and actions more clearly.

  • Psychotherapy is a longer-term process of treatment that identifies emotional issues and the background to problems and difficulties.

  • Has a Masters degree in Psychology

Counsellor:

  • Helps people identify problems and crises and encourages them to take positive steps to resolve these issues.

  • It is the best course of therapeutic treatment for anyone who already has an understanding of wellbeing, and who is also able to resolve problems.

  • Counselling is a short-term process that encourages the change of behaviour.

Life Coach:

  • Life coaching focuses on setting and achieving goals.

  • Life coaches are not therapists and are not trained or qualified to deal with mental health issues.

  • Certificate training course

*I am trained to offer support in all three areas, and provide an integrated approach suited to your needs
